挤塑板的成核剂对挤塑板的硬度起着至关重要的作用。成核剂添加量的不同会影响挤塑板的泡孔大小、泡孔密度、表观密度。最常见的挤塑板成核剂就是滑石粉。

挤塑板的容重决定了挤塑板的硬度,所以滑石粉的添加比例可以在一定程度上影响板材的硬度。当滑石粉添加量比较小的时候,大量的气体没有足够的滑石粉承载,就会有部分外泄,浪费了部分发泡剂,同时也使每个滑石粉颗粒承接的气体量变大,这样的后果就是挤塑板内泡孔大,相应的容重就会小;反之,当滑石粉添加量大时,每个滑石粉颗粒分到的气体量就小,导致挤塑板内泡孔小,挤塑板的容重就会变大。

滑石粉对塑料材料的拉伸强度的限制性比较大,滑石粉含量在一定范围内可以提高拉伸强度,但若过量添加,虽然容重会变大,可拉伸强度就会下降,因为滑石粉本身无收缩性。长期吸入滑石粉主要引起类结节纤维化、弥漫性间质纤维化和异物肉芽肿。间质纤维化与石棉肺表现相似,分布在呼吸细支气管周围,除网状纤维外尚有少量胶原纤维呈不规则排列。在巨细胞内可见到有双折光的滑石颗粒。在胸膜上出现胸膜增厚,甚至胸膜斑,常称为“滑石斑”。肺门淋巴结可中度增大。
